The Many Experiences of John Ramirez
“A being came to me and said ‘don’t worry. We know you moved.’”
Last week I suggested that the United States Intelligence Community should update its polygraph testing to ask questions about UFOs. A great deal of that was motivated by a series of interviews I had listened to with former CIA Officer, John Ramirez. John burst onto the scene in May 2021 and it was the combination of his very legitimate IC career and his claimed UFO experience that drew significant attention from the UFO Community.
By my count, John has since appeared on 24 podcasts speaking for over 60 hours on the subject. Since he will likely remain a significant figure of discussion for years to come, I thought it might be helpful to round up the things John has said about (1) his career, (2) his professional interaction with UFOs, and (3) his personal interactions with UFOs.
Presented factually and without judgement, let’s begin with:
The Professional Experience of John Ramirez
John joined the United States Navy in 1973, training as an Electronic Warfare Technician. Over the next six years, he served onboard the guided missile destroyer USS Cochrane and the frigate USS Thomas C. Hart.1 While at sea, he was responsible for monitoring foreign communications, jamming radars, and identifying other ships through microwave signatures.2 He left to pursue higher education at the end of his six-year enlistment period in 1979.3
John attended George Washington University in Washington D.C. with an interest in qualifying himself for a role with the CIA. He attended GW between 1979 and 1983, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.4
In 1984, John began his career with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) after a year-long application process.5 Over the next 25 years, he variously served in:
the Signals Analysis Division, Office of Signals Intelligence Operations, in the Directorate of Science and Technology. John performed an “ELINT” (Electronic Intelligence) role and began his service as a Senior Analyst (GS-8).6
the Missile Defense Branch, Defensive Systems Division, Office of Scientific and Weapons Research, in the Directorate of Intelligence.78 In this role, John acted primarily as an analyst for ballistic missile defense radars in Russia.
the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) National Counterproliferation Center (NCPC). In this role, John dealt primarily with the use of U.S. spy satellites to prevent nuclear weapons development.
John held a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmentalized Information security clearance during this entire period. He retired formally from the CIA on September 30, 2009, exiting service as a GS-15.9
John’s Professional Interaction with UFOs
Over his 25-years with the CIA, John claims two major career highlights relating to the UFO Phenomenon. Those were:
